Sunday Reading: A New Month, A New Book, A New Way of Thinking
Share
There is something about Sunday that makes us want to slow down.
The week is winding down. We have an opportunity to breathe, reflect, plan, and think about what we want the week ahead to look like.
And if you’re anything like us, Sunday can also be the perfect day to choose your next book.
Maybe you want something you can finish this week.
Maybe you’re looking for a book that will take you a week or two to really absorb.
Or maybe you simply want something that will challenge you to look at life from a different perspective.
So, with this being the first Sunday of the month, we thought:
Why not start a book club?
Welcome to the Gaia Gate Wellness Book Club.
And for our very first selection, we’re starting with a book that asks us to think differently about entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, and the future:
Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future
Peter Thiel with Blake Masters
Why Start With Zero to One?
We didn’t choose this book simply because it’s a business book.
We chose it because of the question at the heart of its philosophy:
What can you create that doesn’t exist yet?
Zero to One explores the difference between taking something that already exists and expanding it versus creating something genuinely new.
The book describes this as the difference between going from 1 to n and going from 0 to 1.
Going from 1 to n means doing more of something that already exists.
Going from 0 to 1 means creating something new.
That idea makes this book much bigger than a conversation about startups.
It becomes a conversation about how we think.
What assumptions have we accepted?
What ideas have we stopped questioning?
What problems are we overlooking?
What possibilities haven’t we considered?
And what might happen if we stopped simply following established paths and started thinking about what could exist next?
Those are questions worth asking whether you’re an entrepreneur, an executive, an innovator, a creator, a student, a parent, or simply someone entering a new chapter of life.
Meet the Authors
Peter Thiel
Peter Thiel is an entrepreneur and investor whose career has been deeply connected to technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
He co-founded PayPal, served as its CEO, and later co-founded Palantir Technologies. He was also an early outside investor in Facebook.
His career has given him experience across entrepreneurship, technology, venture investing, and the development of new businesses.
That background matters when reading Zero to One.
Thiel isn’t writing about entrepreneurship solely as an academic exercise. The book draws from his experiences building companies, investing in startups, and thinking about technological progress and the future.
But here’s what makes the book particularly interesting:
Thiel isn’t offering a simple formula for success.
Instead, the book challenges readers to think independently.
Blake Masters
Blake Masters brings another fascinating part of the story.
In 2012, Masters was a Stanford Law School student who attended Peter Thiel’s course on startups. He took detailed notes from the class and published them online.
Those notes gained significant attention and eventually became the foundation for Zero to One. Thiel and Masters worked together to revise the material and transform the Stanford course into a book for a much broader audience.
And that story itself is worth remembering.
A student took notes.
Those notes became something more.
An idea moved from a classroom to the internet.
And eventually, that idea became a book read around the world.
That’s a fitting story for the first book in a book club centered around entrepreneurs, innovators, and visionaries.
Why Is This Book at Gaia Gate Wellness?
You might look at Gaia Gate Wellness and wonder:
Why would a wellness company feature a book about entrepreneurship?
Because we believe wellness is bigger than one category.
Wellness can mean caring for the body.
It can mean caring for the mind.
It can mean finding balance.
It can mean becoming more intentional about how we spend our time.
And it can also mean developing the clarity, confidence, creativity, purpose, and vision necessary to build a meaningful life.
At Gaia Gate Wellness, we believe personal growth and professional growth don’t have to exist separately.
The way we think affects the way we lead.
The way we lead affects what we build.
And what we build ultimately affects the people and communities around us.
That’s why this book belongs here.
The Conscious Entrepreneur & Visionary Collection
Zero to One is part of the Conscious Entrepreneur & Visionary Collection at Gaia Gate Wellness.
Transformational Wisdom for Purpose-Driven Leaders, Entrepreneurs, Innovators, and Visionaries
Align success with purpose.
This collection brings together books and ideas from entrepreneurs, innovators, business leaders, authors, philosophers, wellness leaders, creators, and transformational thinkers.
You may encounter the work of thinkers such as Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Don Miguel Ruiz, and Jay Shetty, alongside the entrepreneurial and innovative perspectives of people such as Sara Blakely, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, Jeff Bezos, Madam C.J. Walker, Daymond John, and Richard Branson.
Different industries.
Different generations.
Different philosophies.
Different definitions of success.
But one common thread:
They were willing to think beyond what already existed.
That’s what makes this collection different.
We’re not saying there is one formula for success.
We’re inviting you to explore the ideas of people who have challenged conventional thinking, built companies, created movements, developed new technologies, transformed industries, explored consciousness, or simply asked better questions.
Because sometimes the most valuable thing a book can give you isn’t an answer.
It’s a question you can’t stop thinking about.
Your First Gaia Gate Wellness Book Club Challenge
So here’s our invitation to you.
This week, pick up Zero to One.
You don’t have to rush through it.
Give yourself a week.
Give yourself two weeks.
Read a chapter and sit with it.
Write something down.
Underline an idea.
Question something you don’t agree with.
Talk about it with someone else.
And most importantly, ask yourself:
What is my “zero to one”?
What are you building?
What are you creating?
What idea have you been carrying around?
What problem do you see that others may not?
What have you always wanted to do differently?
And what would happen if you stopped assuming that the future has to look like the past?
Start Your Month With Intention
The first Sunday of the month is a beautiful time to begin something new.
A new book.
A new habit.
A new conversation.
A new idea.
A new goal.
Or perhaps simply a new way of looking at something you’ve been thinking about for a long time.
That’s what we hope the Gaia Gate Wellness Book Club becomes.
Not just a place where we tell you what to read.
But a place where we think together.
Where we challenge ourselves.
Where we discover new ideas.
Where entrepreneurs can learn from philosophers.
Where innovators can learn from wellness leaders.
Where leaders can learn from creators.
Where people who are just beginning can learn from people who have already built something extraordinary.
And where every reader has an opportunity to ask:
What comes next for me?
